Czechs less satisfied with overall situation - Eurobarometer ... are unaware that preventive medical checks are covered fully from health insurance and no regulatory cash fees are demanded for them. In all, 82 percent of respondents said they disagreed with across-the-board regulatory fees.
A total of 83 percent believe that seriously ill people should be exempt from the payment, 75 percent believe that handicapped people should not pay fees, 67 percent believe children under 18 should not pay fees and 58 percent think pensioners should be exempted from the fees. Almost half of respondents - 48 percent - said people with low incomes should be exempted from the measure and 88 percent said they were definitely against the payment for preventive checks. Almost three-quarters of respondents over 15 believe that the introduction of regulatory fees will not prevent abuse of medical services. Under the government public finance reform that took effect as of the beginning of this year, Czechs pay 30 crowns per visit to a doctor and per item on a prescription, 60 crowns per day in hospital and 90 crowns for after hours treatment. The Mediaresearch poll was conducted in March on 496 people over 15.
