German Chancellor Angela Merkel has met with her Irish counterpart Bertie Ahern in Dublin for talks on the EU Reform Treaty.

Germany and China Mending Strained Relations ... on the treaty, a replacement for the defunct EU constitution. That document was rejected by French and Dutch voters in 2005. Merkel said the new treaty would bring benefits even to the sceptics who oppose it; and tried to allay fears that the treaty meant assimilation into a European super state.
