07.05.2008 - Czech deputies ease govt conditions of marriage with foreigners
The Chamber of Deputies thus alleviated the conditions with which the government wanted to fight against fake marriages.
The legislation that amends several laws is yet to be discussed by the Senate.
The strict-worded government draft amendment was opposed by deputy Hana Orgonikova (opposition Social Democrats, CSSD).
She said marriage "must not be subordinate to the needs of bodies enforcing foreigner law."

Klaus's election chances grow, Czech MP Snitly will support him ... a proposal that the marriage that a foreigner staying in the Czech Republic illegally enters into cannot be automatically declared invalid.
The same proposal was submitted by Katerina Jacques, chairwoman of the junior ruling Green Party's deputy group.
They were supported by Eva Dundackova (senior ruling Civic Democrats, ODS) who said the rules proposed by the Interior Ministry are inappropriate in comparison with other European countries' legislation.
The amendment was eventually pushed through by Social Democrats, Greens and Communists (KSCM) together with some deputies for the ODS and the junior ruling Christian Democratic Union (KDU-CSL).
