Luxembourg's Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker has urged French president Nicolas Sarkozy not to boycott the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
Sarkozy, who will head the rotating European Union presidency when the Games open, has so far said his decision depends on China's efforts to solve the crisis in Tibet. Speaking to a French radio station, Juncker said he would not understand if the American and Russian presidents were there and Europe was absent, adding that Europe must not be left out of dialogue with China. Juncker is a frontrunner for the post of EU president created by the Lisbon Treaty.
