The soldier's arm was hit by shrapnels from a rocket that fell down near the entrance to the international military base at the Basra airport, guarded by the Czechs. He was operated on in the British field hospital.

His four fellow passengers suffered wounds. A total of 99 Czech soldiers operate in Iraq at present. They guard the main entrance to the international military base in Basra. One Czech soldier died so far of injuries he suffered in Iraq. Along with another two Czechs, he was injured in a road accident in May 2003, some 150 km southeast of Baghdad. In 2005, four Czech soldiers were injured in a road accident in Kuwait.
