Bangladesh's military-backed government says it plans to hold stalled parlamentary elections next December.
The balloting had been scheduled for January last year but emergency rule was imposed amid a political crisis over vote-rigging. The head of Bangladesh's interim government, former central bank chief Fakhruddin Ahmed, has pledged in a televised speech that his administration would hand over power to elected politicians. He has also lifted restrictions to allow political parties to hold indoor meetings but with no more than 200 participants.
