Jung: Germany Remains Vital to NATO's Afghan Mission ... is the first sizeable relief force to arrive, after China's government deployed more than 50,000 troops in the aftermath of its worst earthquake in three decades.
The epicentre of the 7.8 magnitude quake was in the country's south-western province of Sichuan. Tens of thousands of people are dead, missing or trapped under crushed houses, schools and factories. The quake struck during the middle of the school day on Monday, and many children were buried under rubble when at least eight schools collapsed. Germany and many other countries have offered assistance.
