The announcement comes a day after Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman travelled to the Jewish state for a meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to mediate an Israeli-Hamas cease-fire. Israel had demanded that the release of the soldier be included in a truce deal. Hamas in turn is demanding that Israel lift its blockade of Gaza as part of any agreement. Israel fears Hamas will only use a lull in fighting to rearm. Gaza has been virtually sealed by Israel and Egypt since the violent Hamas takeover of the territory last June.
