According to the study, the cost of halving greenhouse gases from the current level would cost less than 2000 crowns per saved tonne of the gases. The Czech Republic could even cut the emissions by 70 percent by 2020, but the costs would be higher, according to the study. The emissions reduction will be reached through substitution of gas for coal in power industry, a higher use of biomass and an increase in the effectiveness of fuels in transport and of the energy effectiveness of products and production. Other ways to reduce emissions include a wider use of biogases, energy saving in households and the combined production of heat and electricity. The Czech Republic produced 114 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2006.
If the above measures were consistently applied, the emissions could drop to 46 million tonnes in 2020. ($1=16.166 crowns)
