More details are emerging of the devastation following China's worst earthquake in decades.
Army-led rescue teams are struggling to reach areas in Sichuan province where tens of thousands are missing or buried under collapsed buildings. Officials said more than 12,000 people are dead in the south-western province. Aftershocks also continue to rock the region, further slowing rescue efforts that have been hindered by heavy rains. Beijing has welcomed offers of help from the international community but the government said conditions were "not yet ripe" to allow in foreign rescue teams, citing damage to transport links.
