Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that progress has been made in talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
He said discussions had achieved understandings and agreements on very important matters, but not all of them. The Israeli leader said he hoped a comprehensive agreement could be reached with the Palestinians. Olmert's comments came on the eve of a visit to Israel by US President George W. Bush. The Bush administration has been pushing to have a final Israeli-Palestinian peace deal signed by January 2009.
