Jung: Germany Remains Vital to NATO's Afghan Mission ... mediators are in Beirut in a bid to broker a solution to Lebanon's political crisis.
The mediation attempts come in the wake of some of the worst internal fighting there since the civil war. On Tuesday, Lebanon's army stepped up patrols as part of a drive to restore order after six days of clashes between Hezbollah fighters and pro-government gunmen. The army has remained neutral in the conflict until now. At least 60 people have been killed and over 200 wounded in the gun-battles which have put much of Beirut and its surroundings under Hezbollah's control.
