Afghan and NATO security forces have sent reinforcements after more than 1,000 prisoners escaped from a Kandahar jail.
In Kabul, Afghanistan's defence ministry and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said they were redeploying troops to respond to a "potential threat" from the escaped prisoners, that included up to 500 Taliban. Meanwhile Pakistan has warned Afghanistan against attacking Taliban positions on its territory, saying it would defend its territorial sovereignty. Meanwhile Britain has said it will be sending an additional 230 troops to Afghanistan, boosting the British contingent to its highest level since operations began in 2001.
