The Israeli cabinet has given final approval for a prisoner swap with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
Israel's deputy prime minister, Eli Yishai, made the announcement following a cabinet meeting. The deal had faced opposition from some cabinet ministers who object to trading prisoners for the bodies of Israeli troops. Under the agreement, Israel is to free five Lebanese guerrillas and the bodies of 199 fighters in return for two Israeli soldiers who were captured in a July 2006 cross-border raid by Hezbollah. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that the two soldiers in question are likely dead.
