Belgium's King Albert II has begun talks with parliamentarians to try to pull the country back from a political crisis.
Belgium's government collapsed on Tuesday after the lapse of a deadline to establish a compromise on behalf of the country's Dutch and French speaking communities. Prime Minister Yves Leterme's coalition is continuing to govern the country in the capacity of a caretaker administration, after the king knocked back the premiere's offer to resign. Flanders, in Belgium's Dutch speaking north is seeking more autonomy in line with its prosperity, and resents its perceived subsidy of the French speaking Wallonia region in the south.
