Russia says the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany have not agreed to impose new sanctions on Iran.
Moscow's ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, told reporters in New York that while the issue of sanctions had been raised, no firm agreement has been reached. Earlier, US and British officials said the major powers negotiating with Iran over its nuclear programme had agreed that they had no choice but to pursue fresh sanctions.
