Holusa, 20, European junior champion in 3000m hurdles, is one of the over 40 signatories of the petition who will go to the Beijing Summer Olympics, starting on Friday. Holusa said he had signed the petition during the Golden League athletic event in Berlin in June.

He added he definitely did not plan any protest events in Beijing where he would leave on Sunday. In the petition addressed to Chinese President Hu Jintao, the athletes demand that China enable a peaceful solution to the Tibetan question and other conflicts in the country in harmony with the fundamental human rights principles. They ask the Chinese president to see to the protection of freedom of speech, conviction and opinions in China and secure that Chinese humans right advocates were not intimidated and imprisoned. The signatories also demand that executions cease in China.
