Dalai Lama saddened by China quake ... have held anti-China protests on the eve of the Beijing Olympics, saying the occasion was an opportunity for the world to recognise their plight.
In the Indian capital New Delhi, about 1,000 Tibetans staged a march, carrying Tibetan flags and shouting slogans. Police and paramilitary troops were deployed to prevent violence. India is home to more than 100,000 Tibetan refugees, including exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. In the northern town of Dharamsala, where the the Dalai Lama and his government-in-exile are based, some 2,000 Tibetans demonstrated against China. In Nepal, hundreds of Tibetans were detained after they clashed with police while protesting in Kathmandu.
