South African President Thabo Mbeki is in Zimbabwe's capital Harare to mediate power-sharing talks between opposition and government leaders.
The country's veteran president Robert Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic Change and Arthur Mutambara, the leader of a smaller MDC faction, are taking part. Reports from the negotiations say the parties have agreed in principle to appointing opposition leader Tsvangirai to the new position of Prime Minister. The talks aimed at resolving the country's political crisis that resulted from disputed elections and violence began two weeks ago.
