China's official Xinhua news agency reports several explosions in the northwestern region of Xinjiang, citing witnesses who said they saw flashes of fire and sporadic gunshots afterwards.

Global Media Forum continues ... added that police have cordoned off the area and the military has moved in to intervene. No official information on casualties was immediately available. An August 4 attack in Xinjiang killed 16 policemen.
