The United States has used an emergency meeting at the UN Security Council in New York to warn Russia over the crisis in Georgia.
The US ambassador to the UN, Zalmay Khalilzad warned that relations with Russia could suffer if Moscow refused to contribute to a peaceful solution. Elsewhere German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" in Georgia.
