The United States has used an emergency meeting at the UN Security Council in New York to warn Russia over the crisis in Georgia.
The US ambassador to the UN, Zalmay Khalilzad warned that relations with Russia could suffer if Moscow refused to contribute to a peaceful solution. Elsewhere German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" in Georgia. She also urged the withdrawal of all military forces "to their positions before the outbreak of hostilities" and said Russian Georgia and South Ossetia rebels agree ceasefire ...
