Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is set to meet his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul in Istanbul.
This marks Ahmadinejad's first visit to Turkey since the Iranian leader came to power in 2005. Thursday's visit is expected to focus on bilateral relations and Iran's nuclear programme. Turkey's foreign minister Ali Babacan has offered to try and mediate in the deadlocked nuclear dispute between Iran and the West. In June, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany offered a new package of incentives to Iran for it to stop its nuclear enrichment.
