In the document, which was signed in the Nigerian town of Calabar, Nigeria cedes all claims on the Bakassi Peninsula. This is in keeping with a 2002 international court ruling that found that Cameroon is the rightful owner. Nigeria's attorney general said that ceding the landmass on the oil-rich Gulf of Guinea was painful but that the country needed to meet its international obligations.
