Global Media Forum continues ... stronger measures to deal with terrorism. Singh described terrorism and fundamentalism as major challenges to the unity of his country, and said improved intelligence services and police forces were needed to combat them.
The main focus of his concern was the escalating violence in Indian-administered Kashmir. Singh appealed to Kashmiri Muslim separatists to end protests that have left 34 people dead in the past six weeks, and called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Security in Indian Kashmir has been stepped up for the independence day celebrations.
