Vladimir Kotenev, told Germany's "Bild" newspaper that his country could provide evidence of Georgian forces murdering women and children and mowing down whole villages in the breakaway province of South Ossetia. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, on the other hand, accused Russian paramilitaries of "plundering and raping" his country. Trying to bring a peaceful solution to the region, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is due to visit Russian President Dmitri Medvedev at the Black Sea resort of Sochi. Merkel was originally going to meet the Russian leader to view the future winter Olympic site, but now the trip is to be dedicated fully to the Georgian conflict.
