Russian forces partly occupying Georgia have exchanged prisoners, including wounded, with Georgian authorities.
But there has been no confirmation that Russia has begun the pullback it promised as part of a French-brokered ceasefire. Senior Russian officers say their forces have started withdrawing. Georgian officials say there is no sign of this. News agency correspondents say 13 Georgians were swapped for five Russians at Igoeti, a village on a key road where Russian soldiers and Georgian police man rival checkpoints. Two Russian helicopters arrived, bringing two wounded Georgians and took away at least one Russian pilot captured during heavy fighting last week. The conflict erupted 11 days ago when Georgian troops tried to retake breakaway South Ossetia from pro-Moscow separatists.
