At the Beijing Olympics, Germany's Matthias Steiner has won gold in the men's weightlifting.
Steiner lifted 203 kilograms in the snatch and 258 in the clean and jerk for a total effort of 461 kilograms, edging out second place Russian Evgeny Chigishev by one kilo. Latvia's world champion Viktors Scerbatihs came third. Also on Tuesday, Germany won a gold and a bronze with Jan Frodeno's victory in the triathlon and gymnast Fabian Hambuechen's third place in the men's horizontal bar. Overall, Germany is in fifth place in the medal tally with 11 gold medals. China is clearly leading the table ahead of the USA, Great Britain and Australia.
