A Thai court has issued arrest warrants for five leaders of an anti-government campaign on charges of inciting unrest and trying to overthrow the government.
The warrant came after thousands of protesters from the People' Alliance for Democracy occupied the compound of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej. Police are trying to negotiate an end to the protests which are aimed at forcing Samak to resign. The PAD accuses him of ruling as a proxy for ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Samak accused the protesters of trying to provoke a coup.
