Earlier, Sarah Palin accepted the party's nomination for vice president. In a highly anticipated speech to the convention, the Alaska governor underlined her credentials as a maverick reformer. She also praised McCain, saying his deeds made him the right president for the United States. Palin is the first-ever female Republican vice presidential nominee. The 44-year-old contrasted her service as a mayor and town council member with Obama's background as a community organizer in Chicago and a first-term senator from Illinois. McCain and Palin will face Obama and Joe Biden in the presidential election on November 4.
