A Washington court has imposed an additional four-year jail sentence on the former lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
In 2006 his influence-buying scandal led to the loss of control in both houses of Congress by the Republican party of President George W. Bush. Abramoff, who apologised in court, will serve the four years parallel to a six-year jail term he's already serving on unrelated charges. Prosecutors, who had initially sought 11 years, recommended leniency because he had cooperated in further corruption probes. These resulted in convictions of a congressman and several congressional and White House aides.
