He added that his talks with Medvedev had been fruitful though Russia and the European Union did not agree on everything. The future of the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is to be discussed at a conference in Geneva in October. Sarkozy was accompanied on his trip to Moscow by the European Union's foreign policy co-ordinator, Javier Solana, and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. The European leaders were aiming to press Russia to implement fully an EU peace plan that ended the fighting four weeks ago. They now travel to the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, to meet President Mikhail Saakashvili.
