Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has said that Russian troops will stay in Georgia's breakaway provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia for a long time to come.
Lavrov's statement comes after a French-brokered deal that saw Russia agree to pull out of Georgia once 200 EU monitors had been deployed. The deal, cautiously welcomed by Georgia's president Mikhail Saakashvili, does not apply to the Black Sea Russia to keep Georgian buffer zone ...

North Korea rejects olive branch ... republic's separatist regions. During a five-day war between Russia and Georgia last month Russia expelled advancing Georgian troops from South Ossetia and subsequently recognised the two rebel regions as independent states. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has refused to reverse the controversial decision despite Georgian and international protest. Russia's Defence Ministry has said it expects to send 7,600 servicemen to South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
