Pakistan's newly elected President Asif Ali Zardari has vowed to pursue united efforts against terrorism with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai.
Speaking at a news conference hours after the widower of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was officially sworn-in, Karzai said that Pakistan and Afghanistan were inseparable in the problems the two countries were facing. Zardari enters office with numerous challenges facing him, first and foremost a rising Islamic insurgency in the country's border region with Afghanistan and public anti-US sentiment. Zardari replaces former army Chief Pervez Musharraf who resigned last month under threat of impeachment.
