Russian forces have begun withdrawing from positions inside Georgia's heartland.

Georgia recalls ambassador to Moscow ... call "a long time" to deter Georgia from trying to regain them. On Monday, Russia agreed to complete its withdrawal within a month and accept 200 EU observes on the ground. But the deal, brokered by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, does not apply to Georgia's separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which Moscow has recognised as independent.
