Warnings against attacking Iran ... hope that CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will provide the necessary power to smash the components of atoms so that it can be seen how they are made. The LHC will attempt to recreate the conditions that existed shortly after the Big Bang. It will use giant magnets to fire energy particles through a 27-km circular tunnel where they will collide at close to the speed of light. The experiment has been criticised by some sceptics, who fear that the proton collisions could eventually lead to dangerous micro black holes. CERN has rejected such claims as "nonsense".
