She said the negotiations will continue. Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek (Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL) said the next round of talks will probably be held between September 18 and 22. In the second quarter of the year, real wages in the public sector have dropped by 3.6 percent year-on-year, according to the figures released by the Czech Statistical Office (CSU). The government originally planned to increase the spending on wages by 1.5 percent. From this base, the planned increase further grew up to 5 percent for selected employees, Kalousek said. The unions, on their part, demand that next year's increase in the wages of all employees in the public sector should cover the inflation at least. "We demanded at least the covering of inflation for public sector employees except for schools. The sum in question is a mere 2.6 billion crowns, but no agreement has been reached," Vondrova said. "The problem does not rest in what I want or do not want, but in the fact that it is not me who prints money," said Kalousek. According to CSU, the average monthly gross wage increased in the Czech Republic by 8 percent to 23,182 crowns year-on-year in the second quarter. The growth of wages was relatively the lowest in the public sector and in the defence and social security areas, 3 percent in each. It was even lower in the educational sector, 2.6 percent. The unions of the police, firefighters and other security corps previously announced that they planned a demonstration for a pay increase in early October unless Interior Minister Ivan Langer complied with their demands.
