Two Russian war planes have landed in Venezuela as part of military manoeuvres.
The Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement that the two Tu-160 bombers would conduct training flights over neutral waters over the next few days before returning to Russia. The statement said that NATO fighters escorted the two Russian bombers on their way to Venezuela. Venezuela's leftist president, Hugo Chavez, has confirmed the arrival of the Russian aircraft. He has been seeking closer ties with Russia.
