A diplomatic row between the United States and two South American countries, Bolivia and Venezuela, has escalated.
In the latest development, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has expelled the US ambassador. His move came after the United States ordered the Bolivian envoy to leave Washington in response to Bolivia's expulsion of the US ambassador. The diplomatic spat intensified after violent anti-government protests in Bolivia which President Evo Morales blames the US envoy of fomenting. At least eight people were killed and over 30 wounded in clashes between pro- and anti-government groups in northern Pando province.
