The turmoil in the US financial markets has prompted the German Finance Ministry and the Bundesbank to issue a joint statement in an attempt to calm the markets.
The statement said that German banks' links to the collapsed Lehman Brothers were "manageable and can be dealt with", adding that the finance ministry was in close contact with its international partners.
