The scandal involving tainted baby milk in China is widening after a toxic chemical was also found in liquid milk.
Supermarkets in China, Hong Kong and Singapore have removed dairy products of several big Chinese brand names from their shelves after a government quality watchdog said nearly 10 percent of milk samples from three major dairies contained traces of potentially deadly melamine. Thousands of babies have been affected and at least four have died after drinking milk powder containing the toxin, which officials say is not dangerous for adults. The European Commission director-general for health and consumer protection said there were no reports of problems from Chinese dairy products in Europe.
