South Africa's governing African National Congress remains tied in a deadlock on whether to call on President Thabo Mbeki to resign. Mbeki has come under pressure for his alleged role in interfering in a case against ANC chief and political rival, Jacob Zuma.
The ANC secretary-general said party leaders would continue to deliberate on Saturday. Mbeki has denied all claims of interference in the corruption case against Zuma. A court dropped charges against the ANC head a week ago, citing technical reasons and not whether Zuma was guilty or innocent.
