Russia has said it opposes a Western push for new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.
The Russian foreign ministry issued a statement rejecting any new measures after a meeting in Washington of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany. A US State Department spokesman said that the parties had expressed their commitment to a dual-track approach of offering incentives to Iran if it cooperates, or punishment if it does not.
