The German cabinet has decided to double the scale of police training activities in Afghanistan.
This would take the number of German police personnel serving with the European Union training mission (EUPOL) in Afghanistan to 120. The EUPOL mission in Afghanistan was initiated in June 2007. It currently includes 180 experts from 21 EU member states. Germany is currently its biggest contributor. The European Union wants to increase the size of the mission to 400 instructors ahead of presidential elections in Afghanistan in 2009.
